Ailing HMIs!

By | March 9, 2011

Situation:

  • Old HMIs using outdated hardware, obsolete OS, and out of support SCADA software.
  • SCADA Software needs to be upgraded and rewritten.
  • Version of the SCADA software is so old that it will not run on a current OS platform.
  • PC Hardware is old and in desperate need of replacement.
  • The only solution you see is to replace it all but you do not have the budget for it.
Solution:
  • Virtualize the HMI PCs.
  • Replace them with thin clients that connect to these virtual client HMIs.
Benifits:
  • Delays the need to upgrade and rewrite the SCADA software (buys you time).
  • Moves you in the right direction (Thin Clients to Terminal Servers)
  • All of the infrastructure will continue to be used in the final solution.
  • Each HMI can be converted individually instead of all at once without the added pressure of failing or obsolete infrastructure.  The need is driven solely by the Software requirements.
